If your feet and legs have numbness and/or burning?

Welcome to my blog!

Pain and/or burning sensation to your feet is not normal, but unfortunately burning feet is a very common complaint that I encounter every day in my practice. Patients complain of their feet being on fire or their feet feeling like two pieces of wood which cause a lot of discomfort and ambulation problems. Other people state that this problem keeps them awake at night. This burning or numbness is usually found in people over 50 years of age but it can be found in the younger population as well. Burning feet could be done to a variety of problems. Diabetes is one disease that cause nerve damage (neuropathy) to your feet. Thus, one important thing that one person must do if experiencing burning in the feet is to get tested for diabetes. A lot of times I will have patients walking into my clinic complaining of burning or numbness to their feet and legs and the first thing I ask is "Are you a diabetic?" And if their answer is no or if they were not tested for diabetes than I recommend that they get tested.

  1. I have this burning and numbness in my left foot in 3 of my toes and on the top of my foot. The past week or so it's move to the ball of my foot and it drives me crazy. My legs also feel very irritable, most times it's only one leg at a time and only when i'm in bed. I have to get out of bed and walk around for a while. I'm not a diabetic, I test myself once a week or so.

  2. I have severe atrophy in the muscles on my right leg and my right right foot is always numb to some degree. My skin is actually peeling on my right foot. The pain is just at barely tolerable. I have no insurance so just trying to get it. I was a hockey goal tender years ago...my weight has never gone up or down...still the same size I was at 18.
